You better be busy brunching at Blackwood!

An ambiance filled with light conversation, lovely service and greenery all around (nurturing your desire to return to the core of the earth...)

There is undoubtedly a plethora of brunch spots tucked, hidden, and renowned in Sydney. So why should you bother to try out Blackwood? – a cafe with two locations (one in Bondi and another in Cronulla). In order to answer this question, I’ll begin by discussing what many other brunch spots can lack: a beach within walking distance, the salty and crisp air, decadently delicious food, and a well curated menu.

The Cronulla location was placed in a small street, minutes from the beach and the rest of Cronull’s shops. Their menu held an overwhelming amount of options, which is uncommon for Sydney cafes which often present the same old: eggs your way, granola bowls, some sort of sandos, french toast, and shakshuka if you’re lucky.

What made the trek worth it, and what would make me return without a doubt, was interestingly, one of their drinks. I’ve never had anything like it despite spending a better part of my bank account on Sydney food. The iced milo cold foam with a shot of espresso was an homage to all of us surpassing out juvenile days; a creative twist on the cult classic. The concoction was addictive: sweet, bitter, chocolately and so very malty.

Apart from the Milo, their Schmitty chicken sandwich was sauced to perfection and contained a sort of pickled cabbage, creating a perfect bite each time. Similarly, their presentation on their French Kiss toast was superior – glazed with cherry puree and freeze dried raspberry, this toast was a blend between the right amount of sour, sweet, and creamy!
